Our Story

The name Akumu is Japanese for Nightmare which is the running theme for the entire brand. We're heavily inspired by everything coming out of Japan from its terrifying horror movies to its cute pop icons.

We started in 2008 selling single t-shirts online from the spare bedroom of our Montreal apartment. Consisting of two members: Joey the artist, and Aldora who handles all things business related.

In 2011 we branched out from just selling online to also being available in boutiques and small shops around the world. Our shirts are now printed and shipped from California, USA.
